The M.O.B. Road Diary: The Spirit of Radio

Well, I have been with the fellas for an entire month now, so what do we do? We play live on the radio for an hour for KHYI’s Shiner Sunday. We played right before KHYI’s house band, as the DJ was describing them, 1,100 Springs. This was a completely nerve racking day for me as the material was still somewhat new, and again it’s live. There just isn’t margin for error when you are playing for about 250 people right in your face, and thousands listening in their cars, houses, back yards, or where ever the listening audience for the radio station is.

Finally, I'm always a huge fan of playing outdoors whenever I get the chance, but if memory serves correctly it had to be about 103° outside that day. We sweat bullets.

*I am currently writing this on Dec. 06, ’05 trying to catch-up on blogging all of our shows. In retrospect this was a really great day for us. We had a blast and I sure would like to do it all over again. As for any level of stage fright goes, after one performs at a level like this, it gets harder and harder to be truly nervous before a show. I mean, once you climb the mountain, then hiking the hill is just a walk in the park.

This was my first time to play at L&W and I really didn't know what to expect. I remember right in the middle of a song hearing some underlying deep noise and feeling the ground shaking. I was using this really nice borrowed amp (still don’t know who’s it was) and hell, I couldn’t even turn it on without help. Anyway, when this ruckus hits full throttle, the ground was shaking pretty well and I turn around to look at this amp because I think I’m literally blowing it up! Then the whistle blows and I almost jump out of my skin. I look over my left shoulder and what do I see? There's nothing like a train blowing its horn 25 feet from the stage when your tunes are being broadcast to a couple thousand people over the air. Scared the shit out of me.
